Sustainability management
Sustainability plays an important role at Banque LBLux. Construction of the building in the 1990s with a rendered façade using 49 cm thick masonry created an energy accumulator that is now often praised, but which is an ancient technique that has stood the test of time. The Bank also uses rainwater as process water and by using long-distance energy instead of its own heating system, it saves 40% in CO2 emissions. Its electricity supplier feeds 66% "green" power into the grid. Each year the Bank monitors and analyses energy consumption and building waste material for the public supervisory body, ITM. The results indicate that, in comparison with comparable buildings, the Bank is invariably among the top 5 in terms of per capita consumption of electricity and water.
Since Banque LBLux's employees are its most important capital, sustainable
planning and organisation are also carried out in this regard. Banque LBLux
has an apprenticeship scheme, something that is certainly not a matter
of course in Luxembourg. Training and further education are gaining increasing
significance, not only because the Bank's competitive advantage is reinforced
in line with employees' knowledge, but also because the half-life of knowledge
is getting shorter and shorter. As a result, time and resources are being
invested in training sessions, specific both to departments and to particular
employees. Encouragement of young talent also demands vision, a sense of
responsibility and long-term thinking as part of a development partnership
on both sides, employees and management.
