Sightseeing

The city of Luxembourg and the entire Grand Duchy of Luxembourg offer a variety of sightseeing opportunities: impressive castles, unspoilt landscapes in the North, the Moselle valley and Echternach with its basilica and the annual Spring Procession in the East, fine examples of the steel industry, not forgetting the city of Luxembourg itself, full of life, in the South.

Here are some of the things to see in Luxembourg:

The Kasematten

The Kasematten have given Luxemburg the name "Gibraltar of the North". The Kasematten is a 23 km long system of underground galleries built on various layers that run under the former Luxembourg castle and go to a depth of 40m under the earth.

The Rocky Point ("Bock Felsen")

The cradle of Luxemburg city. It was on this rocky promontory that Graf Siegfried built his castle, but of which little remains today. Even so, well worth a visit.

The Corniche

"The most beautiful balcony in Europe", runs along a wall in the Alzette valley. The Corniche provides a fabulous view out over the Alzette valley, the Grund area of town and the Rham plateau.

Fort Thüngen and the Mudam

This fort was once part of the defences of the city and was named after the Austrian fort commander Freiherr von Thüngen. Today it is home to the Mudam, the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art.
